OUR STORY

Hi, I'm Dermot Kenny, founder and director of FWC.

I left Ireland in the early eighties as a young, naïve product design graduate, for a job in China. The stark contrast between working conditions at home and those in Asia struck me immediately. So, when the movement for ethical and responsible trade began gaining momentum in the nineties, I signed on without hesitation. My first experience was with factory audits in China nearly 30 years ago: business, human rights and my own journey have come a long way since then.

FWC was established in Roscommon, Ireland, in 2006. Since our formation, we have been steadfast in our drive to champion human rights, ethical trade, and best practices in workplaces around the world. Through our years of experience in high risk countries and various challenging industries, we have developed a finely honed approach that is both practical and people-centred. Yet, we always seek to improve; We are committed to continuous innovation, ensuring that our services and approach consistently deliver exceptional results.

Today, the sun never sets on FWC. We work in some of the world's most challenging and least regulated markets, with a multinational team of HRDD professionals dedicated to making a difference in over 50 countries. FWC has earned the trust of like-minded companies that share our commitment to fair and ethical supply chains and we welcome the opportunity to collaborate with many more. You might be one of them.

Joanne

“A truly
remarkable
woman”

"Joanne led FWC for 15 years.

She was the heart and soul of the organization, and her impact was felt by all who knew her. When asked about her work, she would simply reply that she was doing what she could to make the world a better place – too humble to explain more.

Her friends and family may not fully realize just how much Joanne improved the lives of thousands of people around the world, especially the most vulnerable and defenseless. She approached everything with a no-nonsense just-do-it attitude, making companies take notice and driving positive change that benefitted workers and their families. For this, she deserves a standing ovation, although she never sought recognition or accolade.

Joanne’s mother, father, and brother are wonderful people, and I have no doubt that her children, Jack and Billy, are in great hands. Her legacy will continue to inspire others to make the world a better place, and her indomitable spirit will stay with us always. And on the doubtless days, months, and years ahead when heartbreak threatens to overwhelm, the FWC team will hear Joanne whisper: “Ach, cop on to yourselves, lads, and get on with the job.”
